More cars are now installed with rear seat reminder

The rear seat reminder is aim to remind the drivers to check their backseat before leaving the car. The goal is to cut down on the number of kids who die every year in hot cars. In the US, General Motors was the industry’s first automaker to develop a groundbreaking technology that alerts drivers to check a vehicle’s back seat. The Rear Seat Reminder is linked to a rear door sensor and is activated when either rear door is opened and closed within 10 minutes before the car is started. When the car is turned off, a message flashes to check the back seat along with five audible chimes. (SOURCE: NPR)

Early of the month, Nissan has come out with the similar feature, namely Rear Door Alert that will honk at a driver who opened the rear door before driving somewhere and then leaves the car without opening the rear door again. The technology is yet to be tested for its effectiveness, parents should never let their guard down because these technologies can never replace the impact of human behavior.
