Perodua Bezza Review - Truly Berbeza ( 2017-10-08 )

The Perodua Bezza is Perodua first EEV sedan, namely low carbon emission and fuel efficient vehicles. The Bezza is a good value entry into the competitive market which is dominated by our national favorite sedan, Proton Saga. The result is, you can never not to catch a glimpse of Bezza on the road now, the Bezza is taking the lead right now.

Given that it is a practical car, it possess as a less expensive option for other B-segment rival in the market. The Bezza is compact but surprisingly spacious, one can work around with 508 litre of boot space in order to fit maximum of 3 large size luggage. The Bezza is available in 3 variants, Standard, Premium X and Advance with 2 engine permutations option, 1.3 litre and 1.0 litre engine. The Bezza is the reliable entry level sedan that built for the mass, it is able to fulfill just about everyone’s need for a car this size.

Interior

The Bezza is being positioned at an affordable price range, there is no expectation given for the Bezza but Perodua has again proven me wrong. The Bezza is still giving me the Myvi vibe but more sophisticated and polished. Every buttons on the dashboard are neatly arranged and easy to reach, the driving position is high with great visibility. There are subtle silver trimmings here and there, and 7 inch touch screen infotainment system with reverse camera for the top spec Advance model.

What you are not getting from the Advance model are basically the sense of touch as well as the entertainment. The Standard variant is equipped with mostly plastic material, the steering wheel is not leather wrapped, no silver trimmings, no control buttons on the steering wheel and you are only getting a 2 DIN headunit.

Driving

The Bezza is great for urban city driving, there are significant refinements with NVH as compared to Axia. If you wish the Bezza drives like a Japanese car, it almost there, but not yet. Starting with the fixed steering, it is not adjustable by tilt nor telescopic. If you are used to the haptic reaction of steering, you might be disappointed, the Bezza steering wheel would not turn back automatically. On the plus side, the four speed automatic gear box is smartly tuned and smooth to drive. If you go full throttle onto the pedal, the power delivery is not immediate but punching in speed gradually.

Handling wise, the Bezza remains rigid and well planted when going into corners. The suspension has been revised from Axia to make the car ride more comfortable over long distances.

Performance

As mentioned above, the Bezza comes with 2 engine permutations, a 1.0 litre three-cylinder engine and a 1.3 litre four-cylinder unit. The 1.3 litre engine is carried over from Toyota technology, producing 94 hp and 121 Nm of torque, the VVT-i variable valve timing promises great performance and improved engine combustion. The 1.0 litre is the less powerful option, producing 67 hp and 91 Nm of torque.

Both engines scores very good in terms of fuel efficiency. The 1.0 litre engine achieve 21.3 km per litre fuel for auto transmission while the 1.3 litre engine achieve 22.0km per litre fuel for auto transmission thanks to the Eco Idle function. Speaking of Eco Idle, the Bezza is only car that feature the auto start stop function that cost below RM100k and it is exclusively available for 1.3 litre engine only.

Safety

The safety features in Bezza is one of the biggest highlights. Apart from being awarded 5 start for ASEAN NCAP, the Bezza also comes plenty of active and passive safety features. Starting from the base model, the Bezza Standard is equipped with dual airbags and ABS with EBD. The Premium X gets keyless entry and push start button. The Advance model gets Hill Start Assist (HAS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC) for better stability and performance boost.
