Zero Rated GST Translate to Savings to Your Next New Car ( 2018-05-29 )

As we witnessed and welcome the emergence of the new government in Malaysia after more than 6 decades, the another thing that is mostly celebrated by all the Malaysians is the zero rating of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) that is going to take effect from June 1 st onwards, as announced by Tun Daim Zainuddin in its capacity as member of the Council of Eminent Persons.

As Malaysia passage to the re-introduction of the Sales and Services Tax (SST) which is expected only in the next two to three months, Malaysians can enjoy the “tax holiday” over this period as general perception that most goods are going to cost much less than before, especially even significance in the big ticket items such as cars which the removal of GST can often mean savings of thousands to tenth of thousands if one buys a car now during zero GST.

Soon after the announcement by Tun Daim, many automobile companies have responded and announced the zero-rated GST prices for their respective model line-up even before the new 0% GST takes effect, and the savings for car buyers are substantial.

Car rebate of Perodua Axia SE and MyviFor instance, Perodua is offering GST rebates of RM2,172 for Axia 1.0L SE (Auto) and RM3,114 for the best-selling Myvi 1.5L Advance. No worries if you buy your car from now until May 31 st , as Perodua is going to reimburse in full the GST amount in cash to the buyers.

White Honda City and Toyota ViosUMW Toyota and Honda Malaysia has also announced the GST rebate plus Ramadan savings to all the car buyers which will see big savings of up to RM10,000 for the popular Honda City and Toyota Vios.

Meanwhile Nissan and Subaru have also announced the price protection schemes for their customers.

TC Subaru Sdn Bhd will honour the original, lower price due to any changes in the tax structure for unregistered and new bookings of all Subaru vehicle models between May 11 and Aug 18, 2018.

The sole distributor of Nissan, Edaran Tan Chong Motor sales and marketing director Christopher Tan assures the Nissan car buyers that they will get a refund for the differences in prices, if prices for their new vehicles drop after GST is abolished.
