Malaysian sole distributor of Nissan, Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM), has launched the whole new Nissan Serena S-Hybrid in the recent month after the absence of any new model since the launch of Navara pickup back then in 2015. The all new seven-seater MPV, which is fitted with 2.0 Litre direct-injection four-cylinder petrol engine, will be featured in two variants, i.e. Highway Star and Premium Highway Star, which is priced at RM133,000 and RM143,1000, both inclusive GST and road tax without insurance, respectively. The Serena comes with the MR20DD 2.0 litre engine boasts the power of 147 PS at 5,600 rpm and delivers max torque of 210 Nm at 4,400 rpm. It is fitted with Nissan’s Xtronic CVT transmission and new dual-arm tensioner helps to reduce tension on the arm belt and improve fuel efficiency which Nissan claims deliver fuel consumption at 14.2 kilometres per litre on European’s NEDC standard.
The Serena “second” engine is an ECO electric motor that controls the Idling Stop System and provides energy regeneration. The motor offers acceleration assistance in torque assist when the vehicle is moving away from a standstill.

Apart from that, the base model is rather equipped in our opinion with keyless entry, push start ignition, 16” alloy rims, Around View Monitor, cruise control, touchscreen head-unit that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the automatic climate control. The premium variant boasts mostly the cosmetic features such as 6.5” multimedia navigator with rear view camera, 10.1” roof-mounted LCD panel for the rear passengers, leather seats, V-Kool Elite Security Films, roof spoiler and the door visor; all for extra RM10,100 on his premium speck-ups.

The new Serena provides seven seats with second-row captain’s chairs with armrests as compared to the previous model’s eight-seater setting. The first- and second-row seats feature Zero Gravity technology for improved and enhanced comfort. One of the highlight is that one can also find USB ports all around the car, total seven – including two each for the second and third rows, to help charge up the phone or other electronic devices in desperate situation.
All the Serena S-Hybrid are equipped with enhanced safety that comes with six airbags, as well as the ABS with EBD and brake assist, stability control and hill assist.
