Proton has promised to launch 4 new cars this year. The wish is fulfilled with the launch of Proton Ertiga, a six seaters compact MPV before the year comes to the end. Proton Ertiga is a rebrand from Suzuki Ertiga with the exact same interior and exterior. Prior to its launch in Setia City Convention Centre early this week, Ertiga is tagged ‘Spacious, comfortable and economical’. The new six seater MPV is measured 4265mm long, 1695mm wide and 1685mm tall. Proton Ertiga is standing side to side with Perodua Alza as well as Toyota Avanza which targets to medium size family. Ertiga is available in 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission and it comes in 3 variants which are the Executive MT, Executive AT and Executive Plus AT. The 1.4 litre K14B powered DOHC VVT engine is able to produce 91hp and 130Nm which engineered to cope with day to day city driving. Proton Ertiga is Malaysia first EEV certified MPV, its fuel consumption is rated at 5.7 litres/100KM for manual transmission and 6.0 litres/100KM for auto transmission. The Proton Ertiga has a friendly and rather heart-warming face. The multi reflector Suzuki Swift inspired head lamps are neatly seated. The chrome coated front grill looks relatively refreshing with Proton logo place at the center. The front fog lamps (Only comes with Executive Plus) are placed below the chrome garnish illuminates at any road situation further improves the overall design language. The front bumper looks proportionate with the overall aerodynamic styling of the car, the rear looks rather familiar like Datsun Go Plus, the rear bumper is incorporate with a rear fog light that is available for all models.
Proton Ertiga comes with 4 colors, Ruby Red, Camelian Brown, Metal Grey and Cotton White. The 15 inches five spoke alloy wheels comes as standard for all variants.
The Proton Ertiga interior uses grey and khaki brown color scheme. The driver’s seat is upright yet comfortable and gives you a commanding view on the road ahead. The dashboard is plastic built with no soft touch material, the center console looks simple and practical. There are no infotainment screen available for any variant and all cars come with 2 DIN radio with CD and USB player. However, the car seats are flexible, with second and third row intact, the boot space is only 135 litres, just enough space to fill in 2 small luggages. The boot space is 400 litres with the third row folded with 50:50 split. The second row can be folded with 60:40 split for even more room. You must be wondering where is the spare tyre? Like all MPV, the spare tyre is situated under the car.
Accessories is a common concern among the car buyers. Proton Ertiga comes with standard 2 air bags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat on the second row. The front dash accessories are USB connectivity radio, two 12V power sockets (additional one on the second row seat), roof mounted rear air conditional vent and four speakers.
